Just as bleak as my wallet

The Windup Girl (La chica mecánica) by Paolo Bacigalupi.
This was definitely interesting. The worldbuilding is top notch, a bleak and terrible dystopia, the food kind of scary. I found myself alternating between horror (not of jump scares, but of a terrible future) and amazement of the clever setting: foodhacking, food wars, genetic modification, profit and corporate hell (that could be a genre on its own).
It has a lot of attention to detail and interesting characters, Emiko (The
Windup Girl) is hands down the best, I just wish her part was bigger. It is a
very insightful irony that in a barely livable world there will be people
having the energy to discriminate. It scares me how very possible everything in
here is.
What is
natural? what makes us human? I find all these troubling themes fascinating.
Great book.
