Nasty clowns from another world… and within

The Pilo Family Circus (El circo de la familia Pilo) by Will Elliott.
Oh boy, this was a crazy romp! This debut novel has its flaws for sure, the writing is not that great, but it really compensates with a load of originality that truly shines… in a creepy light. It’s one of those books that goes over the top in a kind of manic tirade with very unlikeable characters: it gets nasty, disturbing, violent, cringy and very fun (ok, I am one of THOSE people who likes dark stuff), so maybe this book isn’t for everybody.
The premise is great, you got Jamie, a very average aimless character who finds himself in an absurdly bad situation, he gets tangled in a dark secret world filled with psychotic clowns, shady and pitiful characters and gets to be one of them because he has no choice. He becomes a clown too: JJ, a cruel and dangerous alter ego that eventually realizes he doesn’t want to share the same space with Jamie. It takes a fight with a dark side within you to the next level.
The setting is also a very creative: an alternate carnie world where dark forces thrive and influence the regular world. But it is more fun if you let the book unravel itself. So that’s it, buckle up and let the crazy trip begin.
