The Tyrant Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson.

The third book in the series lived up easily to my expectations and went beyond. As a series, is amazing how can you be gripping by your seat nonstop in a state of constant anguish, reading pages like a junkie asking for a fix, threading those immense schemes and manipulations and make you fear for the impending doom, or a tragic fall as everybody is running to their goals.

Of course, this is a character driven book, so the game is character development and Baru is a star in all her glory. There is never an easy answer or path for her and here you are, getting deeper and deeper into her, in an escalating disclosure of the soul, of her growth. And in the mud of Baru´s humanity is the richest of it all, the progression of the inquisitive themes and mirrors from context to individual, back and forth: identity, culture, strength, fragility, loyalty, the traps of occupation, of assimilation, brutalization, family, love and the constant struggle to remain and to have yourself.

It achieves rhythm in its trajectory, as a third book and as the story progresses. Hard work folks. Complex, intense and rich. If you haven’t read the first ones, what are you waiting for?

Gossip note. It seems book 4 is going to take some time, the author is sharpening his knives for the fight, remember what Hannibal Lecter says: Good things for those who wait :D
