The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie.

I´ve read the Scifi stuff from Ann Leckie before and is one of my favorites, so I had warm and high expectations for this incursion in Fantasy and they were thoroughly fulfilled.
My mind was all over the place when I began the book, so at first, I thought it was a bit slow, I needed to reset myself somehow to get the flow and then… voilà! There is a rhythm in books and this one has its own of course, so once you get in, it’s like music, and it fits the story.

As usual in Fantasy, the world setting has gods, heirs, conflict and power. The particularities… just wow! The laws of power and gods are amazing and I found them very original and beautiful: they are bound by the power of language; it gives the gods responsibility. If they say something, it has to be true and they need the power to support it or else… And the narrative supports these demands through the characters and how they see things and of course the best (and must surprising) is the narrator, the god Strength and Patience of the Hill: a rock that has remained through time. Not to say the rest of the cast isn´t great, they are awesome.

The final arc is extremely good, I ended feeling exhilarated, the rhythm ended with a blast! Its noteworthy the wicked ability Leckie has with words, juggling with perspectives and distance, elegantly shaping concepts, plots and characters.

Everything has a place in this skillfully balanced web, it is unique, so let it take you by the hand and just flow with it.
