Yada yada Cerberus
Cool cover, spanish edition. |
The Fifth Head of Cerberus (La quinta cabeza de Cerbero) by Gene Wolfe.
Interesting ideas, boring as hell execution. It seems that
the "profound" level is a couple of notches up by mixing things up,
like a drunken puzzle dynamic... not really working. I have enjoyed some
puzzling, confusing books, this time just felt pointless. Ok, it appears the
book pissed me off in some degree.
Random mumbling.
I enjoyed the first story, the one that names the book, the
other two, not at all. I found fascinating the idea of the first inhabitants
copying and substituting the newcomers and the nightmarish quality of
superposing identities over and over. I could see a web of brilliant ideas,
interesting symbols and connections, but the narrative was like constantly
pouring water to every spark of fire.
And then...
Maybe some things got lost in translation or it is a style I
don’t like… whatever.
Useless opinion. The best was the vintage style cover, hands
down.
